That's the great thing about hair... it always grows back!! Don't feel too badly, you're not the first person to mess up your kids' hair cut (myself included) and you certainly won't be the last.
I've messed my kids hair up too. It was fun to see it grow back and envision different things we could do with a (professional) barber at a later date as it grew out. Who knows, maybe he'll get a cool faux-hawk.
