Do you think mustaches are sexy? That is challenging.  I'm not a huge fan of mustaches, but Husband has a goatee that I really like on him.  Then, there is the 5 o'clock shadow on some sexy movie stars, such as Ben Affleck (SIGH!!!) or George Clooney or Clive Owen...

What's the last concert you've been to? I'm thinking... It was probably Madeleine Peyroux.  Love her!  I hope to go to Jonny Lang in September. For the record, if Jonny Lang asks me to marry him, I may need to leave my husband.

What was your favorite 80's sitcom? I couldn't think of any 80's sitcoms off the top of my head, so I had to Google a list of them.  I fondly remember watching some, but I'll have to say that Happy Days, Punky Brewster, Different Strokes, and Who's the Boss? were some of my very favorites.

 Were you named after anyone? My mom's middle name is Ann, so I was named after her.  The middle name "Louise" was a bonus.  She liked the name and I hated it as a child.  However, I didn't hate it enough to forget to pass it on to my eldest daughter as her middle name too.

When you buy new clothes, do you wash before wearing? Almost never! I know this will appall many of you, but it's my reality.

If you could have any meal brought to you right now, what would it be? I'm craving some chicken fajitas with lots of red & yellow peppers, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, guac and some delish spanish rice.  Or I would adore sauteed hibachi shrimp with ginger dipping sauce and onion soup and yummy fried rice from Benihana's.  Ooooo!  I'm starving now!

Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a child? If so, do you still have it? When I was a wee one, I was attached to a pillow case.  I would carry the pillow case (empty) around with me AND I was a thumb sucker.  The pillow case and thumb sucking were inseparable.  I loved my sacred pillow case so much that I wore it out so there were just tattered strips of fabric let -- and YES! I do still have a tiny scrap of pillowcase hidden in my house.

Do you dream in color? I don't usually remember my dreams, but when I do, I often dream in color.  I once heard that if you dream in color you have a higher IQ.  I have no idea is this is true, but I guess I'd like to lie to myself and think it's true (which apparently, The International Association for the Study of Dreams is ready to burst my bubble)...

How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller? SIGH!  I'm only 5 foot 1 AND A HALF inches tall. (Notice the extra HALF INCH that is important for me to throw in there.)  If I was much shorter, I could qualify for "little people" status.  I've always dreamed of being r-e-a-l-l-y tall... like 5 foot 5 inches!

If you could have anyone’s (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be? Personally, I don't have GPS and the entire thing of listening to directions while driving is so very confusing for those of us with the affliction "Eternally Directionally Challenged".  However, I could swoon at James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman.

Odd question since at a measly five foot nothing and being slightly wider than I am tall (just kidding... kind of), I don't think I could pull off any of the Disney princesses.  However, since I don't want to be Minnie Mouse or Daisy Duck and I definitely don't want ot be compared to Goofy or Clarabelle Cow, I will go with Arielle from The Little Mermaid.  The only similarities are my (once upon a time) red hair and blue eyes.  Denial is a plausible excuse here...

What were your high school colors? Maroon and Gold -- just like the University of Minnesota's college colors.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? "I love you" from y'all know who you are.

Do you buy cheap or expensive TP? I'm a middle of the road kind of gal when it comes to TP.  I am frugal and poor (try raising 4 kids!) but I refuse to buy the super thin, one layer junk.  It's awful.  However, I also don't buy the most expensive stuff. I tend to buy a well known big box stores off brand that compares to more expensive brands.

Name three celebs you find attractive? Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is impossible to resist. I love Julia Roberts gorgeous hair in My Best Friend's Wedding or in Run Away Bride. Matt Damon in the Bourne movies rocks and I'll add a bonus, I'm in love with anything Ben Affleck and I don't know why...

What is your guilty pleasure?
Hmmmm... do I have any guilty pleasures?  Since being overwhelmed with four children, I often feel like I'm stuck in the back of the bus and don't save any guilty pleasures for just me.  Perhaps my guilty pleasure is my yearly trip "Up North" in May with my scrapping friends.


What magazines do you subscribe to?
Only two... Taste of Home and Creating Keepsakes (scrapbooking mag). Now that I think about it, my two magazine subscriptions also feel like a guilty pleasure, because we certainly can't afford them, but I always look forward to them!


What is one thing you miss about your childhood?
This question could be answered in so many ways.  What strikes my fancy right now... I miss just being a carefree, self-centered (in a normal, healthy way) child, who was not responsible for bills and laundry and taking care of so many other people.


Are you still friends with your friends from high school?

I am still friends with a couple people from high school.  Actually, my brother in law married my best friend from high school and so, although, I am no longer close friends with said HS BFF, we are family now...  I am actually still in touch with and kind of close friends with a few elementary school and junior high friends.  There is this myth that folks in the Midwest stay put after high school and keep their friends for eternity.  I wonder how true this is...


Are you a neat sleeper or a messy sleeper?
Messy sleeper.  I do not like to be mummified by blankets or small children who creep into my bed in the middle of the night, or any other innocent victim who slither into my flip-flopping sleep area.


P.S. I wish I could tell you that I make my bed every day, but I don't.  I refuse to make it, just to mess it up again each night.  However, I will agree that it feels better to slip into a nicely made bed each night... but oh well!  We all have our limitations and short-comings.

Do you live in a house that is deep cleaned or straighened?
I live in neither.  LOL!  My house needs to be deep-cleaned and, unfortunately, it's not even straightened.  It's a bit on the cluttered and messy side.  Ugh!
What is the first nightmare you remember?
I was being chased by a shark as I was swimming... in my BATH TUB!

Even if you are not a sports fan, what’s your favorite sport to watch?
Always volleyball or any type of dancing.

If you could pull off one piece of trendy fashion, what would it be (jeggings, hats, thigh high boots, etc)?
I'd like to be able to pull off thigh-high boots.  (If I could pull it off, it would be a safe assumption that I had significantly skinnier thighs.)

Did you make good grades in school?
Yes, for the most part.  I always excelled in school and it was easy.  However, in high school, I started to appreciate a good FULL day of sleep to slaving over my geometry book or physics equations and then my grades dropped a bit... but I always did well -- when I showed up.

Do you fold your socks?
No way!  I mean, I fold the children's socks, but usually mine just stay in  basket and I curse myself each and every morning that the sock fairy didn't come during the night to match my stupid socks.


Would you ever own a mini-van?
Yep. Unfortunately, I do own a mini-van.  I promised myself I was NEVER going to own one, but with four children and not enough money for an SUV, I am stuck with a soccer-mom driving mini-van mommy.

Do you wash new clothes before wearing them?
Sometimes, but not usually.

If you could have any talent and turn it into an occupation? What would it be and what would you do?
If I could have any talent and turn it into an occupation, it would either be a professional photographer or a scrapbooker for hire.

Would you rather have a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods?
Definitely a cabin in the woods.  I burn way too easy for a beach -- plus I'm not a fan of sand.

How much sleep do you get at night?
SIGH!  I get a lot less sleep than I would like to.  I am the kind of gal who needs a TON of sleep, but rarely get it.  I would say that on average I get about 6-7 hours a night.  However, my body would REALLY prefer to get 8-9 hours a night.


Would you rather wear the same thing for the rest of your life or eat the same thing for the rest of your life?
I'd rather wear the same thing for the rest of my life (as long as it's uber comfortable).  I want variety in my food!  I love me some good ol' home cooking!


What was your favorite TV show as a child?
As a really young child, my favorite cartoons were Jem and the Holograms, Care Bears, Fraggle Rock, and Smurfs.


Do you budget Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?
Oh no.  There is no budgeting.  I just wing it.


Do you remember your biggest fear from when you were little?
My biggest fear was being eaten alive by a shark -- in my bath tub!!!  Or the random nightmare about my family perishing in a house fire...

What is something that you wish you had been warned about?
This question could be taken many ways. The first thing that pops into my mind is... I wish I had been warned that relationships, ALL relationships, are really tough, tiring, and eternal work.  I do not mean this in only a negative way.  I simply mean that in order to keep relationships with friends, spouses or partners, siblings, children, co-workers, etc, you need to put those folks first and make time for them.  In elementary school and high school, it's so easy to have time for your friends -- but as an adult?  Wow!  It's challenging to find enough time in a day to eat 3 healthy meals, sleep and shower, and now I have to work REALLY hard to keep my friendships going too...

What is the most significant difference between you and your significant other?
SIGH!  Where do I start?  It would be a bit of an understatement to say that Husband and I are polar opposites.  Most significant difference would either have to be A) he does not believe in God or religion, but I am a born-again Evangelical Free Christian [you can imagine some of our challenging issues raising wee ones with such a different worldview] OR B) I talk TO think and process things, but Husband thinks FOREVER before he mutters a single syllable or talks.  We communicate and process information differently, which makes for easy mis-understandings.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Feisty, Enthusiastic, Compassionate

 What do you listen to while driving in your car?

If I am in the car by myself, I always listen to National Public Radio (NPR) or Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) -- the news/talk stations.  I think Minnesota has one of the all-time best state public radio stations in the country.  I LOVE TALK RADIO!  If the wee ones are in the vehicle, I usually have the radio off so I can listen to them chatter about their day, or bicker with each other.

What is your least favorite thing about fall?
My least favorite thing about autumn is that after all of the gloriously beautiful leaves fall off the trees and the air becomes nippy at night, it means there is one inevitable thing about to happen in Minnesota...  SNOW!  Sigh.  I hate shoveling, and driving in it, and freezing your duff off... but it's all worth it to experience the other three grand seasons in my fabulous state.

What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?

I'm not a fan of fad diets.  I haven't really ever had the self-control to partipate in fad diets.  Sorry!

Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode of?

The closest I've ever come to watching every single episode is probably Dawson's Creek.  Still LOVE that show!!!  Go Pacey! Go Dawson! Go Joey!

What one song always pulls at your heart?

I can't think of one off the top of my head.  Perhaps Tim McGraw's "Don't Take the Girl" or Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" or Nicole C. Mullen's "Call On Jesus".

Did you have a pen pal when you were little (or now)? Where were they from?

Nope. No pen pals to speak of.  But, if you like the idea of writing to someone on a regular basis, please consider volunteering with CHEMO ANGELS!  I work with this awesome organization and it provides a very important service to folks suffering more than they ever need to suffer.

If you could do a different job for one day, what would it be?

I'd like to try being a Graphic Artist, or a Web Designer, or a Labor and Delivery Nurse or a NICU Nurse.

What is your biggest pet peeve about other people’s kids?

Yowsers.  This is a challenging question.  I suppose my biggest pet peeve are rude or inconsiderate children.  I can't stand children who don't respect the adults (and children) around them.

Regular or diet soda?

Always diet soda.  It's kind of a mandated thing after gastric bypass surgery.  Plus, I don't actually know if I can function a full day without Diet Pepsi.  It's my one true love -- after my wee ones and family and... well, it's right up there!

Have you ever hit an animal with your vehicle?

Define "animal".  I have not hit large animals, but I may have accidentally picked off the random squirrel.

When you see a string on your clothes, do you pull it off or cut it off?

I almost always pull the offending string off.  I know it's much wiser to cut it off, but I don't usually have that much patience.

Did you have your own room or share a room when you were growing up?

Both.  I shared a bedroom for the first several years of my life with my middle sister, who is only 11 months younger than I.  But by the time I was in approximately 4th or 5th grade, I was granted my own bedroom and my middle sister shared a bedroom with our baby sister who is 5 1/2 years younger than me.

What was the last movie you saw in the theater?

It's quite rare that I make it out to a movie.  Now days I'm just too tired and busy.  It feels like wasting my time (not to mention hard-earned money!) to sit in a theater on the extremely infrequent and exceptional occasion that I escape the house without any children.  I'm assuming it was the most recent Twilight movie -- Eclipse.  And truth be told, it was a horrendously awfully acted movie.  I adored the books, but the movies have been getting progressively worse.  That being said... you know I'll be attending any and all of the rest of the Twilight Saga movies.

What do you wear to bed?

I'm sure Husband wishes it was more exciting... but I must admit, usually it's simply an over-sized t-shirt.  Preferably one of Husband's because since he's a good foot taller than me, his T's are way more comfortable.

What do you do when you have time to yourself?

Time to myself?!  What is that?!?!?  If you don't count time alone where I feel guilted into housework... For pleasure, I like to scrapbook, lay in bed with a good book, blog, take a nap, grocery shop (yes! I love to grocery shop), peruse scrapbook shops, journal, more napping.

When you look out your kitchen window, what do you see?

I wish I saw my backyard, but unfortunately, my house is set up in a psychotically messed up manner, and my kitchen is in the MIDDLE of my house, situated between my living room and the wee ones bedroom.  The one lone kitchen window stares into my neighbor's home office window and across the kitchen is the back door that stares at the other neighbor's privacy fence.  Awesome views from my kitchen!

Who or what would you want to be reincarnated as? 

I don't actually believe in reincarnation since I believe that the Lord Jesus is the one and only true God.  However, to play along, I think it would be awesome to be reincarnated as a scrapbook.  All of the love and creativity that would be  put into making you -- all of the personal, sweet, sad, triumphant, tragic stories that you (as a scrapbook) would be able to tell...

Rhyming with Pencil

1) Space aliens have landed and have given you a choice: come back to their world without anyone knowing or become their ambassador and introduce them to the people of Earth. Which would you choose? I guess I would have to try my hand at being an ambassador. I'm not ready to give up all of my family and friends, and leave them wondering what happened to me. I hope I'd be able to convince humankind to not kill me because of those dopey aliens.

2) You’ve won a walk-on role on your favorite television show and you get to suggest the new character you play. Which show and what type of character? Hmmm... this is hard! I love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri on the Food Network. It's a fabulous show! I would love to be the owner and executive chef of a delectably delicious restaurant featured on the show.

3) A relative that you never met has died. They have left you an item in their will that they knew you would appreciate. What is the item and why do you like it? The item willed to me would either be family photos or family scrapbooks. I love to preserve family memories. 1) What's your favorite breakfast food?
I didn't used to be a fan of any breakfast foods but now that I have children, I appreciate how quickly you can whip up what is traditionally called "breakfast food" for dinner. My fave would have to be bacon or hash browns. I love potatoes in ALL forms.

2) Who's your favorite game show host?
Remember that evil lady from the first episodes of "Weakest Link"? She rocked. Gotta stick together with fellow red heads. On a more traditional note, The Price Is Right just hasn't been the same since Mr. Barker left... (and I ADORE Drew Carey, but morning games shows aren't his best venue.)

3) If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I think it would be fantastic to fly. I would love the feeling of the wind through my hair. I think the idea of tele-transporting myself to other countries (or any location) without wasting the travel time would be pretty nifty. Then there is always the thought of time-travel... is that a super power option?

4) Do you like guacamole?
LOVE IT! Just learned how to make it this winter. I like it with lots of cilantro.

5) Have you ever been in a food fight?
Nope, but as long as I didn't have to clean up after it, I would love to be in a food fight.

1. What's your favorite knock-knock joke?
I try to avoid knock-knock jokes since the children love inventing them and they never make sense. I think Big E has a 3 or 4 books completely dedicated to knock-knock jokes.

2. What's your favorite commercial?
One of my favorite commericals right now are the Swagger Wagon commericals, that I even posted about earlier.



3. If you could go to Disney World with any celebrity alive today, who would it be?
Off hte top of my head... Will Smith or Julia Stiles.

4. Do you prefer baths or showers?
Definitely baths to relax but showers to get the job done/hair washed. Who has time to dwadle in a bath when small children don't even let you pee in private?

5. Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?
Of course.

1. Are you afraid of heights?
Yep. I am okay riding in elevators or looking out the windows of sky scrappers or even riding ferris wheels, but I am not such a fan of climbing ladders and the thought of jumping out of plane to skydive gives me the wee-bee-jee-bees!

2. Have you ever taken dance lessons?
Oh yes. I took dance lessons for over ten years as a child. I participated in ballet, tap, jazz, chorus line and toe (or sometimes known as pointe). I even had a brief stint on the high school dance line. Although I no longer dance, I am a HUMONGOUS fan of all types of dance. My favorite movies always include dance: Flashdance, Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Honey, Save the Last Dance, Coyote Ugly, White Knights (remember that one?!?!?), Take the Lead, Swing Kids...

3. What's your favorite newspaper?
I enjoy City Pages.

4. What's your favorite Broadway musical?
I don't think I can pick only one... If we are talking about ONLY musicals, then my fave may be Cats or Chicago or A Chorus Line. There is always Grease, Hairspray and West Side Story too. I've never seen Wicked or Jesus Christ Superstar, but I really want to. If we are talking about Broadway shows that include dancing, but no singing freaks, my favorites would change to Tap Dogs or Stomp!

5. What's the most memorable class you've ever taken?
In high school, I participated in a multi-disciplinary course called P.A.S.S. (Partners: Arts and Schools for Students). Fourteen arts organizations, including the Walker Art Center, CreArte, 10,000 Dances, FORECAST, Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, Guthrie Theatre, Heart of the Beast Theater, Minnesota State Arts Board, Illusion Theatre, Intermedia Arts MN, James Sewell Dance, MacPhail Center for the Arts, SteppingStone Theatre, and The Loft, worked with students to create many types of art installations while integrating art (drama, visual art, film, photography, painting, dance, pottery, creative movement, singing, orchestra, etc) into all parts of our curriculum. Our art installations including a couple of permanent exhibits at our high school.

1. Have you ever been stung by a bee?
Yes. A few times and it sucks. I am not allergic to them but my dad and one of my sisters is. I am always afraid that my children may be too, but the fear is unfounded so far because none of them have ever been stung...

2. What's the sickest you've ever been?
Summer of 2009 -- I had a kidney infection and ended up in the hospital with orange colored pee and feeling like I was knocking on deaths door. It was hideous!

3. What's your favorite form of exercise?
I can't believe this is even a question someone would answer. Who actually LIKES to exercise? I, personally, am adamantly against exercise, unless being chased with a weapon -- in which case, I suppose I may run for my life.

4. What's your favorite Cyndi Lauper song?
I can only think of two of her songs -- "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" should be every woman's theme song, I suppose.

5. What did you do for your 13th birthday?
My mother always made birthdays special when we were growing up. I am quite sure I did something spectacular for my 13th but I can't seem to remember what... My parents 10th birthday (golden birthday) and my sweet 16th birthday were AWESOME and I'll tell you about them some other time.

1) If you could travel anywhere in Africa, where would it be?
I would relish traveling almost anywhere in Africa that included a photography safari. However, as long as we are dreaming of the impossible -- I want to stay at the Lion Sands Ivory Lodge. OMG!!!!! 1) What's the best costume you've ever worn?
The homemade scarecrow costume my mom made when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. My sisters were Dorothy and the Evil Witch from the Wizard of Oz.

2) What's your least favorite word?
There are several vulgar words I dislike, but I won't mention them. My least favorite "regular" word is phlegm. EWWWW! Just the sound of that word can make me gag!

3) If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?
Dakota or Carolina -- but do I have to include "North" or "South" in my name? If so, I may need to rethink it and decide to be named Mississippi or Nevada.

4) Who's your favorite Care Bear?
Grumpy Bear was always my fave.

5) Describe something that's happened to you for which you have no explanation.
My mind is drawing a blank and I guess I have no explanation for that...

1) What's the best bargain you've ever found at a garage sale or thrift store?
Too many deals discovered to share in one setting. My mom taught me to be a fantastic bargain shopper.

2) Where were you on September 11, 2001?
I was in MN, working at a Fortune 500 company. I was covering the front desk for the receptionist who was stuck in traffic. I remember a couple of employees coming into the lobby/office exclaiming they had just heard a large plane had flown into one of the Twin Towers in NYC. The receptionist came in and I followed one of the Senior VPs into the cafeteria where he turned on the television. We sat in horror and watched as the second plane flew into the second tower live. It was hideous!

3) What's your favorite tree?
White birch

4) What's the most interesting biography you've read?
It's not a biography, but I enjoyed reading "Memoirs of Geisha". It was an interesting (although basically fictional) glimpse into the lives of geishas.

5) What do you order when you eat Chinese food?
Favorites include cream cheese wantons, egg rolls and vegetable lo mein
